Beginning Watercolor: Hummingbird Workshop VIRTUAL
Saturday, November 28 | 10am - 12:30pm CST
Beginner Level Online Workshop - great for beginners or artists new to my workshops
Cost: $44
Zoom replay available for 30 days following the workshop.
We’ll start with the basics about watercolor supplies and paint behavior so you can approach watercolor with confidence. Then you’ll learn my 3-step watercolor painting process, 3 principles to a successful painting, and the 3 properties of water control for paint, paper, and brushes. We'll practice a handful of my favorite techniques then complete a quick and colorful hummingbird painting. All students will receive PDF worksheets, reference photo and tracing.
This is a beginner level workshop, great for artists new to watercolor or artists who have never taken a workshop with me. We'll spend more time covering supplies and the 3-step process.

Beginning Watercolor: Hummingbird
VIRTUAL via Zoom
Saturday, November 28 | 10am - 12:30pm CST with short intermission break
Cost: $44
The Zoom link and class materials will be emailed out to you the Monday before the workshop so you have time to look over the worksheets and trace your subject. Workshop replay will be available for one month after the workshop.
Techniques and topics:
Scraping/stylus, Splatter, Dry Brush, Grainer Brush, Pigmented Edges and a special focus on using a limited palette and intentional color
Supplies:
Each student will receive PDF worksheets, reference photo, and tracing.
Be prepared to paint with your watercolor painting supplies, including paper, paints, brushes, water cup, scraping tool, pencil, eraser, ink pen, and blotting towel.
Suggested specific supplies: one size 2 liner brush (for fine lines), two to four size 6 round brushes, one 1/2 inch filbert grainer brush (for painting feathers) and one 1/2 or 3/4 inch flat / shader brush, 140 or 300lb cold-press watercolor paper in any size between 9x12 and 11x15, a watercolor palette, Daniel Smith watercolor paint: quinacridone gold, azo yellow, lunar black*, and cobalt teal, scraping tool (like a plastic fork), pencil and eraser, blotting towel, water cup
*Lunar Black is a highly granulating color. Substituting this color with another black color will not produce the same granular results. I highly recommend getting a tube of lunar black - you will not regret it!
Optional supplies: ink pen, aqua bronze powder in gold
Final notes:
There is no additional YouTube video for this specific hummingbird paint-along, it will be exclusive to this workshop.
This workshop is limited to 20 students. You are welcome to have your camera on or off, and participate as much or as little as you would like. This workshop is for you! However, if you do have a question I encourage you to ask - other artists are likely wondering about the same thing and will benefit from it.
Cancellation/Refund Policy: Since this is a virtual class, you will still have access to the program after the workshop takes place. Because of this I do not offer refunds. The replay will be available to you for one month after class.
